How To Plan The Best Micro Wedding

The wedding planning process has changed significantly since 2020.

I’m here to share some good news, and give you the tips that I’ve learned over the past few months.

Who am I? I’m Kody Ng, and I’m a wedding, couples, and elopement photographer!

I’ve been working with couples who have planned small weddings since covid to make sure that they can still have their special day.

1. SMALL IS BETTER

For the past number of years, I’ve watched wedding guest counts, along with price tags, skyrocket through the roof, usually due to the influence of other family members.

THIS YEAR IS YOUR EXCUSE TO HAVE THE WEDDING YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO.

You’re able to have your dream wedding, with only the closest of your friends and family present to witness such an important moment in your life.

2. YOU GET TO SPEND TIME WITH EVERYONE THERE

Traditionally, couples usually don’t even talk with everyone during their wedding. Now, you’re able to spend time with each and every person that is present.

3. COST

Prices this year have gotten out of control. With these smaller weddings taking place now, couples are now able to re-allocate their funds and spend more money on more important aspects of their wedding.

4. YOU CAN NOW GET MARRIED ANYWHERE

This is one of the most exciting things with micro weddings - you can get married anywhere.

You no longer have to look for halls to accommodate a certain guest count, while also meeting the budget.

Now you get to be creative! Whether that’s an intimate backyard wedding or something a little more crazy such as a helicopter elopement to a private island, you get to have the wedding that you’ve always dreamed of!

5. BETTER WEDDING PHOTOS

As a wedding photographer, this is the most exciting part of micro weddings for me.

Weddings have become much simpler. This means that the stress level for everyone goes down significantly! No more rushing to make sure everything is shoved into a 12 hour day, no more waiting for that one group of people that show up late to your wedding.

This lack of stress on the wedding day, really comes through in the photos.

Smaller weddings also mean that we can plan out exactly when you want to have your photos taken! No more non-ideal lighting conditions where you aren’t looking your best

Micro weddings, we can schedule at the best time of day for photos.

To add to that, you can now use the budget you saved to spend a little more on the details you’d really like to have.

SO HOW DO YOU PLAN THE BEST MICRO WEDDING?

My suggestions:

Pick your dream location.

You no longer have to follow specific rules for your location. Parks, intimate locations, private islands, and more are being super helpful and accommodating to help you plan out the wedding you want.

Spend some of the money you’re saving on bringing in great vendors.
When the number of guests go up, so do the fees that you have to pay to include them all. Now, you can spend some of that money to get the best vendors possible.

Set up an on location dinner, or move to a restaurant.
With a smaller guest count, it is now possible to set up your wedding in smaller reception areas. Again, this is probably the only year you’ll be able to do this, so take advantage of it!

TO GET THE BEST PHOTOGRAPHS:

Schedule your ceremony when it’s good for photos.
2 hours before sunset will give us the best light for photos.

Hire a photographer (me!) for 2-3 hours.
That will cover a little of the getting ready, details, the ceremony, family photos and photos of the two of you. (There are also packages if you’d like me to come to the reception)

My photography is primarily candid, so it’ll be a more relaxing experience than you might think right now. You’ll get to enjoy your day and not have to worry about your wedding turning into those nightmare photo shoots that leave you burnt out.

Safety in this time is a priority for me. I will respect all current local rules.

If you’re interested in working together, please send me a note in the contact form below, and I’ll get back to you within 24 hours.
